Singapore Polytechnic Campus Expansion

Details

Client: Singapore Polytechnic

Project Brief: Proposed Singapore Polytechnic Campus Expansion Involving New Erection of 3 Blocks 4-8 Storey Building Comprising of Classrooms, Food Courts, MSCP and Other Ancillary Works

Project Duration: Jan 2013 to Jul 2015

Project Highlights: Use of Precast Columns and Walls in Construction. Project Awarded as 2nd Lowest Bidder.

Awards: Platinum Green Mark

Conquas Score: 94

Location: 500 Dover Rd, Singapore 139651

Challenges:
  • The project site was located far from the school gates where our trailers, concrete trucks are required to pass through to get access to the site. As such, a traffic management team was formed to manage the movement of big vehicles to prevent creating any potential traffic hazards to the students.

      • The facade of the Aerohub involved curtain glasses, metal cladding, perforated aluminium cladding, double bank louvres, vertical bi-folding doors, and 6 m height electrical sliding doors. To improve coordination amongst the different trades of façade works, a 3D software (Tekla) was used to incorporate the works together although it was not required in the project.

          • The project site discharge outlet was originally connected to a main drain under a taxi stand and linkway beside Dover MRT. While the original design was for the taxi stand and linkway to be hoarded up during the construction, we had redesigned and extended the drain outlet to avoid the connection at the taxi stand and linkway. This successfully eliminated the need to hoard up the taxi stand and linkway and avoided disruptions to the users e.g. students and public.

              • The project requires the construction of 2 new elevated pedestrian linkways. To avoid disturbances to the students and traffic below, the works were carried out during the school holidays and the steel linkways were prefabricated off-site to ensure that the works can be completed within the school holidays.
